ROOTED IN REAL PEOPLE

A beautiful ingredient has a human story.

The softness of shea butter begins long before it reaches a jar. It begins with a tree, a seed and people who know how to transform its kernels into butter. Their knowledge and work deserve to be seen and respected.

Our shea butter suppliers in West Africa have shared their story with Zarenva. We believe caring for the skin should also mean understanding where an ingredient comes from and acknowledging the hands behind it.

Before there is a finished butter, there is knowledge, patience and work.

THE TRADITIONAL PROCESS

How is shea butter made?

Traditional methods vary across regions and producers. A typical process includes six stages:

  1. Gather and prepare

Harvest the fruit, then prepare and dry the nuts.

  2. Shell and crush

Separate the kernels and reduce them into smaller pieces.

  3. Grind

Turn the prepared kernels into a paste.

  4. Work the paste

Traditional processes may use water and mixing to help separate the fat.

  5. Heat and clarify

Separate the butter and remove residual moisture.

  6. Filter and cool

Finish the butter before appropriate handling and storage.

FROM HERITAGE TO FINISHED CARE

Respect for origin. Responsibility for quality.

Ingredient origin is one chapter in a cosmetic product's life. Ingredient handling, formulation, hygiene, quality checks and packaging are separate responsibilities for the finished Zarenva products. We take those questions seriously as we prepare our collection for launch.

We honour the people and knowledge behind our ingredients, while developing our finished products with attention to formulation, quality and clear product information. Ingredient lists and directions will accompany our launch collection.
