Conditioning & body

Shea butter

Vitellaria paradoxa · seed kernel butter

The origin

The foundation of our story.

Shea butter comes from the kernels of the African shea tree. Our unrefined shea butter is sourced through women in West Africa, connecting the formula to the people and ingredient traditions behind it.

The benefits

Softness through the lengths.

Shea butter coats the hair with emollient richness, helping dry lengths feel softer and more conditioned. It also gives the butter its substantial texture.

Why we chose it

A rich beginning for the hair ritual.

We chose shea to anchor Silk Nourish with conditioning richness, then paired it with lighter spreading ingredients so a small amount can be worked through the lengths and ends.

Richness & texture

Palm kernel oil

Elaeis guineensis · kernel oil

The origin

A small kernel. A deeper story.

This oil comes from the kernel inside the oil palm fruit. The surrounding flesh produces palm oil, a different ingredient. Our palm kernel oil is sourced through women in West Africa.

The benefits

A fuller conditioning feel.

Palm kernel oil brings emollient richness to the oil and butter blend. It helps give the formula body while contributing to the coated, conditioned feel on hair.

Why we chose it

Heritage, carried into hair care.

We chose it as a distinctive part of Silk Nourish's foundation. Paired with shea and mango butters, it helps create a rich finishing butter for the lengths and ends.

Softness & creamy texture

Mango butter

Mangifera indica · seed butter

The origin

The part of the mango you rarely see.

Mango butter comes from the seed within the mango stone. The fruit's familiar flesh and the seed butter have different roles: this ingredient is the soft fat obtained from the seed.

The benefits

Another dimension of softness.

Mango seed butter is an emollient that brings a creamy feel to the formula and helps leave hair feeling conditioned. It contributes substance without relying on a waxy styling finish.

Why we chose it

A companion to shea.

We chose mango butter to sit alongside shea and palm kernel oil, giving the butter blend another source of softness and helping shape its creamy texture.

Conditioning & distribution

High oleic sunflower oil

Helianthus annuus · seed oil

The origin

From seed to golden oil.

Sunflower oil is obtained from sunflower seeds. High oleic describes a selected oil profile rich in oleic acid, one of its principal fatty acids.

The benefits

A smoother path through the lengths.

Sunflower oil contributes emollient conditioning and a smoother feel on hair. As a liquid oil, it also helps the richer butter ingredients spread during application.

Why we chose it

A practical partner to richness.

We chose it to balance the solid butter blend and help a small amount distribute through the hair. That balance matters in a product intended for careful, gradual application.

Slip & easy spreading

Caprylic/capric triglyceride

A refined cosmetic emollient

The origin

A considered ingredient, precisely made.

This emollient is made by combining glycerin with selected caprylic and capric fatty acids, commonly obtained from coconut or palm kernel oils. Its name describes that carefully selected composition.

The benefits

Helping a little go through the lengths.

This spreading emollient brings slip to the blend and helps the richer ingredients distribute. Its contribution is to the formula's feel and application.

Why we chose it

Rich care, considered application.

We chose it to make Silk Nourish easier to work between the fingertips and through the hair, balancing the more substantial feel of the butters and castor oil.

Cushion & shine

Castor oil

Ricinus communis · seed oil

The origin

A seed oil with substance.

Castor oil is obtained from the seeds of Ricinus communis. Its naturally viscous character sets it apart from more fluid seed oils and gives it a distinctive place in cosmetic blends.

The benefits

A polished finishing touch.

Castor oil coats the hair with a substantial emollient feel and can contribute shine. Its richness is most useful when a small amount is worked through the lengths and ends.

Why we chose it

Chosen for the finish.

We chose castor oil for the cushion and gloss it brings to the blend. Lighter spreading oils help balance its viscosity, keeping the focus on a controlled finishing ritual.

Smooth feel & conditioning

Jojoba oil

Simmondsia chinensis · seed wax

The origin

An oil by name. A liquid wax by nature.

Jojoba comes from the seeds of Simmondsia chinensis. Although commonly called an oil, it is a liquid wax, giving it a different composition from the triglyceride oils in the blend.

The benefits

Softness with a polished feel.

Jojoba is an emollient that helps coat the hair, contributing a smoother, conditioned feel and a little surface sheen.

Why we chose it

A different kind of emollient.

We chose jojoba to complement the rich butters and castor oil. Its liquid wax character brings another texture to the blend, helping us shape the feel of the finished hair ritual.

Texture & a softer finish

Arrowroot powder

Maranta arundinacea · root powder

The origin

A fine powder from beneath the leaf.

Arrowroot powder comes from the starchy underground rhizomes of Maranta arundinacea. The familiar white powder has a useful role in the feel of rich cosmetic formulas.

The benefits

Taking the edge off an oily feel.

Arrowroot is absorbent and helps temper the greasy feel of an oil rich blend. In this formula, its purpose is to refine texture rather than to add conditioning oil.

Why we chose it

The small detail in the finish.

We chose a fine powder to balance the richness of the butters and oils. Arrowroot helps us pursue a softer finish while keeping Silk Nourish's substantial butter character.

Oil protection

Mixed tocopherols

Members of the vitamin E family

The origin

A family of oil loving antioxidants.

Tocopherols are members of the vitamin E family. Mixed tocopherol ingredients commonly combine several forms concentrated from vegetable oils; the precise composition depends on the material supplied.

The benefits

Supporting the blend from within.

Mixed tocopherols help slow oxidation of the oils and butters. Their central contribution is supporting the quality of the formula's oil blend.

Why we chose it

A considered final detail.

We chose mixed tocopherols to help care for Silk Nourish's oil blend. Their antioxidant role complements the emollients without adding another layer of richness to the hair ritual.

Scent & ritual

Brazilian Bum Bum fragrance

A composed aromatic blend

The origin

The aromatic part of the story.

Brazilian Bum Bum is the fragrance selected for this formula. It is a composed aromatic blend, with its identity defined by the fragrance composition rather than a single botanical source.

The benefits

A scented finishing moment.

Fragrance adds an aromatic dimension to the hair ritual. Its role is sensory, while the butters and oils provide the conditioning feel.

Why we chose it

A thread between two rituals.

We chose the same fragrance for Silk Nourish and Velvet Nourish, creating a connection between the hair and body rituals through scent.

Considered together

The beauty is in the balance.

Conditioning butters, carefully balanced oils and the final details of texture and scent. Each plays a part in the Silk Nourish ritual.
