Palm kernel oil

The origin

A small kernel. A deeper story.

This oil comes from the kernel inside the oil palm fruit. The surrounding flesh produces palm oil, a different ingredient. Our palm kernel oil is sourced through women in West Africa.

Palm kernel oil contributes emollience and body to the blend. Alongside shea butter, it helps shape a rich texture that softens the feel of skin.

We chose it for both its place in our West African ingredient story and its role in the butter's texture. It is part of the foundation, with supporting oils refining the glide.

The origin

From seed to golden oil.

Sunflower oil is obtained from sunflower seeds. High oleic describes a selected oil profile rich in oleic acid, one of its principal fatty acids.

Making richness easier to wear.

This liquid emollient softens the feel of skin and helps the solid butters spread. It brings fluidity to a formula built around richer fats.

Why we chose it

The balance within the butter.

We chose the high oleic grade to help balance the solid butters with a smooth liquid oil, giving Velvet Nourish a more fluid application as it warms between the palms.

Caprylic/capric triglyceride

A refined cosmetic emollient

The origin

A considered ingredient, precisely made.

This emollient is made by combining glycerin with selected caprylic and capric fatty acids, commonly obtained from coconut or palm kernel oils. Its name describes that carefully selected composition.

The benefits

The quiet work of glide.

It helps the formula spread smoothly and softens the feel of skin. Its fluid texture balances the heavier feel of rich butters.

Why we chose it

For the moment butter meets skin.

We chose it to refine the application of Velvet Nourish: a smoother glide as the butter warms, with less of the heavy drag that solid fats can bring on their own.

Micronized rice starch

Oryza sativa · grain starch

The origin

Rice, refined into a finer touch.

Rice starch is obtained from rice grains. We use a cosmetic grade, micronized powder, selected for its particularly fine texture in a body butter.

Softening the finish.

Fine rice starch absorbs oil and can reduce the greasy feel of rich formulas. It brings a soft, powdery touch that complements the emollient butters.

We chose micronized rice starch to help balance richness with a more refined afterfeel. Its job is quiet but deliberate: to shape how the butter feels once it has been spread.

Tocopherols are members of the vitamin E family. Mixed tocopherol ingredients commonly combine several forms concentrated from vegetable oils; the precise composition depends on the material supplied.
